Indian Railway floats tender for redevelopment of 14 stations

Indian Railways has published contracts worth Rs 5,000 crore for 14 stations on an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) basis in order to speed up the station reconstruction programme.

The railroads have chosen 53 stations in the first phase across the country to be reconstructed in EPC mode to speed the work in a predetermined schedule, rejecting the public-private partnership model.

According to a senior Railway Ministry official, the EPC option was chosen since the PPP model took longer to complete reconstruction work.

Gwalior station is anticipated to cost Rs 500 crore, Lucknow station is estimated to cost Rs 475 crore, Tirupati station is estimated to cost Rs 313 crore, and Gaya station is estimated to cost Rs 300 crore.
