IISc receives Rs 425-crore donation to set up medical institute

In Bengaluru, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will build a postgraduate medical school and an 800-bed multi-specialty hospital.

Susmita and Subroto Bagchi, as well as Radha and NS Parthasarathy, benefactors, partnered with the institute to establish the new facilities, donating a total of Rs 425 crore.

The money is thought to be the IISc’s largest single private grant. Bagchi-Parthasarathy Hospital will be the name of the hospital.

According to officials, the academic centrepiece of this endeavour will be an integrated dual-degree MD-PhD programme aimed at developing a new generation of physician-scientists who will work in clinical research to create innovative therapies and healthcare solutions, guided by a bench-to-bedside mentality.
