Government likely to introduce PLI scheme for basic chemical and API industries

Introducing a Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) plan for the basic chemical and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) industries is something the government aims to do, according to Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers.

The minister emphasised the need of utilising India’s significant potential in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries during the opening of the eighth edition of the International Conference on India Pharma and India Medical Device 2023.

In his speech, the minister asked the sector to uphold high standards, stressing that lowering standards would harm India’s status as a top-tier nation. Mandaviya emphasised the cooperative approach used by the government and the successful outcomes attained in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries as a result of conversations between the government and industry.

He called upon the industry to join forces with the government to enhance India’s reputation and unleash its full potential.
