GAIL India, Bengal Gas Co, its joint venture partner, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) have opted to engage in a number of CNG projects in West Bengal. Over the following five years, a total of Rs 17,000 crore would be invested. Piped gas distribution and the installation of compressed natural gas (CNG) stations are among the initiatives. The green fuel’s availability is intended to aid in the reduction of air pollution.
HPCL would invest 8,000 crore in city gas distribution and CNG station infrastructure, while GAIL and Bengal Gas will contribute 9,000 crore in the pipeline construction. By September 2023, the CNG pipeline from Durgapur is projected to reach Kolkata.
Of the 315 km long Durgapur to Haldia pipeline, only 60-70 kilometres have been completed in patches.
“We had eight districts and now we are set to get four more districts for city gas distribution in West Bengal. Altogether our investment will go up from ₹5,800 crore to ₹8,000 crore,” informs HPCL CGM (City Gas Distribution) Sanjoy Ghosh.
