CUMTA invites bids for feasibility study for Lite Metro in Chennai

In the near future, the ‘Lite Metro’ may be introduced into Chennai’s public transportation system.

The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) intends to conduct a preliminary feasibility study on the Lite Metro project.

Metrolite, or Light Urban Rail Transit System, differs from the Indian Railways network in that it is either a better tram or a lower-level metro.

According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited, the majority of the rail surface will be on ground (at-grade) and will have dedicated tracks isolated from the road to reduce construction costs (CMRL).
