Following the meeting of the Uttarakhand Tourism Board Council, Satpal Maharaj, the state’s tourism minister, said that construction will soon begin on the two major ropeway projects, Sonprayag to Kedarnath and Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib.

The minister stated that a detailed project report (DPR) had been created for both projects. The Sonprayag-Kedarnath project would be 13 kilometres long and cost close to Rs 1,200 crore. The Govind Ghat-Hemkund Sahib project would be 12.5 kilometres long and will cost Rs 850 crore.

A total of 26.43 hectares of forest land would be given to the state government as part of the Kedarnath ropeway project, compared to around 27.4782 hectares for the Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib project.

Both projects have been cleared by the State Wildlife Board and have been sent to the National Wildlife Board for approval.
