Century plywood bags contract to modernise Khidderpore Docks in Kolkata

On a build-operate-own-transfer basis, Century Plyboards (India) Ltd has been awarded a contract to modernise and mechanise a cluster of six berths in Kolkata’s Khidderpore Docks.

By building mechanised systems to handle containers and clean bulk cargo, these berths under KPD -1 (West) would create extra port capacity in eastern India once fully operational.

The project will be the first in the Kolkata Dock System to have a public-private cooperation. The Company will have a 30-year contract to run the operation on a build-operate-own-transfer basis once the agreement is finalised.

In two phases, the contract calls for equipping the docks to handle 330,000 containers and 650,000 tonnes of cargo each year. The project’s estimated cost is roughly Rs 200 crore.
