Centre plans Rs 51,000 crore push for hydroelectric power in J&K

With a total expenditure of around 51,000 crore, the Centre wants to give hydroelectric power a substantial boost, with an emphasis on improving infrastructure and creating jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the government’s decision to build the Kwar hydro project, two additional projects are in the works, and Union Power Minister R.K. Singh stated the ministry will shortly seek cabinet permission for them.

The news comes after the Union cabinet approved a plan to invest 4,526.12 crore in Jammu and Kashmir to build the 540 MW Kwar hydropower project on the Chenab River.

In the Union territory, there is a total investment of Rs 23,000 crore in under construction hydro projects.
