Basavaraj updates about Hubballi-Ankola railway project

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that the Karnataka government is eager to start work on the Hubballi-Ankola railway project this year as soon as it receives environmental and other approvals.

Speaking to reporters, Bommai stated that the project is nearing completion of the approval process.

Years ago, a scheme to link north Karnataka with the ports of Uttara Kannada was suggested. However, due to complaints, work was not started between Kalaghatagi and Ankola through Yellapur.

Instead, it was started from Hubballi to Kalaghatagi. A planned railway line will cross the Kali Tiger Reserve and an elephant corridor in the Western Ghats. Bommai expressed hope that the project will be approved this year.
