Yantra India Ltd. (YIL), a defense public sector undertaking, has announced plans to double its railway axle manufacturing capacity in response to rising demand from Indian Railways. 

Currently producing around 50,000 axles annually, the company aims to increase output to 100,000 units as part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance domestic manufacturing capacity.

YIL officials said the expansion will support the modernization of India’s railway network and reduce reliance on imports. 

The new capacity will be developed at the company’s facilities in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, with production expected to ramp up over the next 18 months. 

The move aligns with India’s infrastructure growth trajectory and the government’s focus on “Make in India” for critical components in transport and defense.
