Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), part of Vedanta Group, has commenced production at India’s largest 525 kA aluminium smelter, taking its total capacity to one million tonnes per annum. 

This milestone elevates BALCO into the coveted “million-tonne club,” underscoring its role as a key player in India’s aluminium industry. 

The new smelter enhances production efficiency and lowers per-unit costs, reinforcing India’s self-reliance in strategic metals. 

The increased output is expected to benefit key sectors such as aerospace, defence, power, and infrastructure. 

While the expansion boosts capacity and scale, maintaining operational stability and managing power and raw material costs will be critical to sustaining long-term profitability.
