The project to develop and operate an LNG receiving facility off the coast of Gujarat, India, is being managed by Swan Energy. The Jafrabad FSRU is India’s first newbuild Floating, Storage, and Regasification Unit (FSRU).<\/p>\n

The business says that its LNG regasification facility, which is now being phased in, has a capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum (mmtpa).<\/p>\n

The first phase of the project includes LNG port facilities with a capacity of five million tonnes per year (mmtpa) and a floating storage unit (FSU) connected through ship-to-ship transfer equipment.<\/p>\n

The terminal was supposed to be operational in 2019. Due to two cyclones in the area and the pandemic, it was postponed.<\/p>\n

Vivek Merchant, Swan\u2019s General Manager, Projects says, \u201cWe are expecting the country\u2019s LNG terminals to have a capacity of about sixty mmtpa in the next eight to ten years. India, along with China and other countries, has to move towards a greener source of fuel. LNG, is the future\u2019s fuel. The company has signed regasification agreements including with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation covering the entire five mmtpa for twenty years\u201d.<\/p>\n
